  • It affects me for weeks after I watch it

So this movie just became available on On Demand and when I watch it, it affects me for weeks... it is beautiful and wonderful and so powerful. Here’s the mechanics, the movie’s plot line plays out like a song except the moments of tension and relaxation are prolonged over the course of the length of time a movie provides compared to the length of a song. Think of the moment when a song gives you goosebumps and drag that out over 15 minutes or so. That’s Lala Land. Completely unreal movie experience and there are very few movies that I like.

I'm not big on romantic movies, nor musicals, it's just not my cup of tea; I am a sucker for everyone involved, including Damien Chazelle, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stones, that's why I went to see it. The opening scene made me question whether it was a good idea for me to watch it, and to anyone doubting, JUST WATCH IT. I fell in love with the movie, it's not perfect by any means, but it just fills your heat with joy and hope, heartache and tears, granted most of its hype comes from being a love letter to LA, Hollywood, just in time for awards season but it doesn't make it any less better.
  • Incredible Movie, Beautiful Soundtracks

I've watched this movie for like six times over the past six months, three times in the cinema, others over the internet. It's so beautiful and touching.
  • The last gasp of the vintage Hollywood musical

This feels like it was screen wrote for the era of "Singing in the rain" with an updated visual. Sounds good right? Wrong. The story is ludicrous, the dancing, singing from the two main characters were okay. I wanted to like it, but this isn't as good as "Blues Bros" or "Seven brides for seven brothers ". It's NOT BAD, it's just not 5 stars good IMO. The Hollywood ploy of giving itself good reviews and hype is getting old and now we are waiting for real people to give their experiences before seeing a movie in theatres.
  • Pure awards-bait

    By Tad Cornell
I knew what this movie was going in with the hope it would prove me wrong. It did not. This movie is pure awards bait, I'm normally in agreement with these types of films, but this one felt like it had no substance behind the artsy looks and the required bits in order to win awards. The ending "what could have been" sequence demonstrates the most out of every seen what this film is like, and it is not good. The only thing that surprised me and was something I like (hence 2 instead of 1 star) is [SPOILERS!!] that one of them didn't die as I expected and the they didn't get together. Either way would have been lame as both have been done to death just like everything else in this movie, but they did do one thing different and one different thing was good.
  • Well made but...

...boring as hell. At least I wish they updated the music score with a modern touch. Also very melancholic (or cheesy?) around the end. Actors are great, movie itself is a piece of art indeed but like I said before, not for everyone and...BORING. ;-)

Wow this is an awful movie. Incredibly boring. Not good dancing or singing. Stupid plot.

Was a decent movie but just felt dark and depressing for a romantic movie. I wish it had a happier ending. The music is a bit too depressing to listen to too. 😐
