this film has a lot of bad reviews on itunes due to the background of an anti gun law taking place in this film. jessica chastain shines in this performance and teaches you and enthralls you in this piece of modern day classic cinema. completely worth the (if not multiple) watch!
  • A Total Failure

If you research the amount made for this film you will see that it was a total failure that was hardly seen by anyone worldwide. It is only listed by an obvious Gun Hater as a "Standout Hit" to fool people into buying it.

Great plot and cast. the truth about our "democracies" and how even media is a mean to the end, no matters left or right.

I don't see how people can say this was an enjoyable movie and tell us to ignore the politics - it's like going to a movie and watching people eat poo or pull out fingernails - you can't pretend it's not happening. Miss sloan believes in her 5th amendment rights which she's upset about losing, but is willing to pare down the 2nd for everyone else without being upset. This not about lobbying and the Gun Lobby or background checks - it's about blackmail and backhanded tactics and aimed at making the gun lobby look bad, while trying to modify public opinion regarding limitations on the rights of law abiding citizens (without concern for how it affects those people). It irritated me to no end while watching this play out, regardless of the ending. But we the voters are the gun lobby, and we pay the NRA and other groups our dues to protect our rights from people like Miss Sloan. She makes the point that anyone desperate enough to need a gun immediately shouldn't be allowed near one, and yet the only people who need a gun are those desperate enough to protect their lives and the lives of those that they love before it's too late. Don't for a minute believe that these laws don't affect law abiding citizens. Where I live I can't leave a firearm at my mother-in-law's for more than 72 hours (whether for storage or on loan) without her going through a background check. If I go away on vacation for 2 weeks and she uses the firearm to defend her home, I could go to jail if we don't jump through time and money consuming hoops. I can gift a firearm to a parent, wife, kids or sibling without a background check, but not to my other family members like my mother-in-law. It might have to pass through multiple immediate family members to get to a cousin or nephew, but even then I can't gift a firearm that belongs to my Gun Trust - it has to be a loan which can't be over 72 hours. And I can't add my adult son or daughter to my Gun Trust - they were minors at the time the background check law passed in CO in 2013, and they were unable to get anyone to do a background check to simply to join the Trust when they finally came of age. A lawyer wants $400 per trustee for the proper legal advice, when before the law I could have drawn up the docs myself. Criminals don't even give these issues a second thought, and these laws don't stop crime or stop the sale of black market firearms. It just diminishes our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Jessica Chastain gives a tour-de-force performance that is riveting every moment she’s on-screen. Some of the plot twists bordered on farcical, but Ms. Chastain guides them to believability.

This movie is pure BS and thoroughly enjoyable. Those two rarely mix well in Hollywood these days.

Randomly decided to watch this not knowing what it was about. I liked very much. Its a good thriller sort of in the vein of Michael Clayton. Great cast, and Jessica Chastain did an exceptional job as the lead. Solid filmmaking.

If you are missing blantant propaganda in your day or don't get enough politics already...this movie is for you. Seriously, this is a waste of time. If you want to get into the nuances of gun control and such do some real reading. This nonsense won't help you to better understand anything unless you enjoy being hit over the head with a sledgehammer.
